Wide Array of Aircraft Expected at Hangar Party

Aviation Heritage Park’s Hangar Party traditionally hosts a wide display of historical, experimental and significant aircraft.

In recent years the party has had: DC-3, B-25, Spartan Executive (owned by Howard Hughes), Piper Cubs, T-6 Texans, Stearman bi-planes, YAK acrobat, T-33 Shooting Star, P-51 Mustang, experimental and handbuilt aircraft plus a full flight of Globe Swifts.

This year is no different. Although all aircraft arrival is weather dependent, AHP is expecting a Black Hawk plus an array of past headliners.

Ray Nutter – the Face of Vietnam Vets at Aviation Heritage Park

Aviation Heritage Park uses historically accurate aircraft to tell the story of regional aviator heroes. Colonel Raymond Nutter will be the “face” of the newly restored UH-1 Huey to be unveiled at the Hangar Party and then displayed at the park. Nutter was a Western Kentucky University graduate and one of the thousands of Vietnam-era helicopter pilots to fly a Huey. Nutter’s combat service in Vietnam earned numerous citations for valor, including the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation’s second-highest medal for valor. Read about Col.Nutter here.

Fully Restored Huey to be Unveiled at Hangar Party

The Huey is painted and she looks outstanding. The finishing touch was the decals for the Vikings and the Soc Trang Tigers. The Huey will be unveiled at the June 16 Hangar Party. The Huey honors area Vietnam veterans and tells the heroic story of Col. Ray Nutter, a Huey pilot in the 121st Assault Helicopter Company. To read about Colonel Nutter click HERE.

Vietnam War Display at Hangar Party

Be sure to stop by the Battle Front tent when you arrive at the Hangar Party to see a large display of Vietnam era uniforms, implements, vehicles and the daily needs of a soldier. Brian Meier and his group of re-enactors/ historians portray soldiers from Vietnam and give a real picture into the life of the American GI during that period of time. Meier’s group participates in Living History Events, Historical Studies, Military Displays, Battle Reenactments and Documentaries.
